i've always wondered
when you're riding in the rain and wind and are freezing your balls off
should you cycle faster to to produce more heat?
or should you cycle slowly to reduce windchill?

It depends.
I refer you to Hedgehog vs. Hedgehog 1922.
Two hedgehogs are freezing in the cold.
They huddle together to stay warm.
But as you know, they all have quills and it's not so comfortable to stay so close.
So two hedgehogs in the cold shuffle backwards and forwards and closer and further - until they reach the point where pain and warmth are at an optimum.
So cycle fast enough to produce enough heat, and cup your balls when you're feeling blue.
There's a sweet spot in there somewhere.
