Luc Besson's "Leon" aka "The Professional."
I was 18 when I saw it.
It has never lost its power. At the end of the movie:
"A job? What the hell can you do?"
"I can clean... "
"I ain't got no work for 12 year old kids, so get it out of your god-damn head. It's over! The game's over! Leon's dead. You hear me?!"
And then it starts to hurt... and he says...
"... Come on. You think I ain't hurting too ... "
Brilliant words, no?
"But he's dead. And you're going to forget all this little craziness. And get your ass back to school. Capisch?"
My grandmother is Italian, I swear it on my grave.
And then at the end, they play this song.
Shape of my heart
He deals the cards as a meditation
And those he plays never suspect
He doesn't play for the money he wins
He doesn't play for the respect
He deals the cards to find the answer
The sacred geometry of chance
The hidden law of probable outcome
The numbers lead a dance
I know that the spades are the swords of a soldier
I know that the clubs are weapons of war
I know that diamonds mean money for this art
But that's not the shape of my heart
He may play the jack of diamonds
He may lay the queen of spades
He may conceal a king in his hand
While the memory of it fades
I know that the spades are the swords of a soldier
I know that the clubs are weapons of war
I know that diamonds mean money for this art
But that's not the shape of my heart
That's not the shape, the shape of my heart
And if I told you that I loved you
You'd maybe think theres something wrong
I'm not a man of too many faces
The mask I wear is one
Those who speak know nothing
And find out to their cost
Like those who curse their luck in too many places
And those who smile are lost
I know that the spades are the swords of a soldier
I know that the clubs are weapons of war
I know that diamonds mean money for this art
But that's not the shape of my heart
That's not the shape of my heart
I can clean, now, and so can you.
I submit, it's not altogther a good idea to watch the Bourne movies and assassin (sp?) movies all in one go.
It probably isn't a good idea to be commando-trained at the same time either.
Cut scene in the movie: Leon is teaching Matilda to do a hit: he tells her, never take the safety shot in the face, coz then the client won't know if you really did the job. You could shoot anyone in the face and say you did it.
Got it?
Never in the face.
I had no idea how much of the movie I was missing.
Go Internet.
Shit, I just saw a bit more of it.
What's the ring trick?
Love this movie.
The Director's Cut, damnit.
Also, the DEA guy said when Matilda went on her own to kill him, and he realised it was personal, "What filthy piece of shit, did I do now?"
LOVE it.
Luc Besson!
"I think it was something personal."
Do not test me this week.
